Alex's True Colors Are Starting To Shine

Always the master of social(ist) engineering, Alex MUNTER has engaged voters back into the PEST-icide debate. Quite frankly his fear-mongering on what Larry O. would do if elected on this issue is horse-shit and wreaks of over paid consultants.

MUNTER and his left wing groupies should be careful, opening social issues such as this seem to be a campaign non-theme for this camp. Anyone Google MUNTER and Health Recreation and Social Services yet?

Opening Alex up to questioning on his views on social-issues stands the very real chance of decimating his chances at being Mayor.

So on that note, we congratulate him and urge him to also start bringing forth his TRUE ideas on social-housing, homelessness, and like his legacy in Kanata; when people can and cannot hang clothes-lines on their own private property.

Please Mr. MUNTER indulge us with your ideas for our fair city, taxpayers have been waiting to hear your real agenda since you launched in January 2006.

Here Comes The Crying -Again-

As we predicted, Alex MUNTER is starting to realize that his hopes of being the "head social-engineer" at Ottawa City Hall is evaporating with each passing day.

His crying has gone into a full out tantrum mode. Someone get this guy a soother to suck on!!!!

MUNTER's shift to criticizing Larry O's indicates that he knows full well that soft Mayor BOB support is beginning to close the gap between the two of them.

By all accounts, MUNTER should be doing some self-reflection and looking at the loads of horse-shit that he has proposed throughout this campaign without any true, concrete economic numbers.

MUNTER should ask himself if it's OK to portray oneself as a tax fighter, while being supported by unions and special interest groups frothing at the mouth with the thought of having one of their own in power.

MUNTER should re-read some old HRSS agenda items that he supported prior to his departure from public life. Is this really the guy who taxpayers think they are electing Mayor? Maybe Alex's Political Makeover can fool some, but we dismiss it as nothing more than an expensive PR team's backing.

Alex MUNTER the people of Ottawa deserve to know your true (hidden) agenda before November 13, 2006.

Some Mighty Fine Endorsements

Looking at the race over in 22, it appears that the Conservative's have finally gotten their collective asses in gear and decided to back a candidate.

Eric LAMOUREUX has received the endorsement of Johnny BAIRD and Sen. LEBRETON.

Now if only the local MP and MPP could get their collective behinds in gear, the Conservatives of Riverside-South might save the seat from going to Liberal Smilin' Steve.

Congrats to the Conservatives for endorsing their only real candidate in Ward 22.

A Change in Strategy

Larry O. has started to bring forth the truth about Alex MUNTER and his political stance.

Since the left-wing media in this city has been unable to do their homework on MUNTER and his past, it appears that the last phase of this election will have Larry O. showcasing the true Alex MUNTER.

Shouldn't be to hard for him to find examples of how truly left-wing MUNTER is, he does have quite some heavy political baggage.

Look for MUNTER and his highly paid communications team to counter the Larry O. strategy with press releases and whiny MUNTER talking about Larry O's lack of political experience.

The last phase of this election is going to be extremely interesting. The race in our opinion is down to these two candidates, and Mayor BOB stands to get humiliated if his support starts to fall to Larry O.

Worth Considering

While Larry O's tax plan is still quite scarce on details. The simplistic approach may be just what this city needs.

Since amalgamation, many including ourselves would argue that this city has taken the approach of the former City of Ottawa and spent well beyond it's means.

Larry O's approach may limit tax increases (though we're still not convinced that a zero rate can be achieved) but more importantly his approach is going to get him soft-Mayor BOB votes.

A vote swing towards Larry O. is bad for Mayor BOB and MUNTER; but if it stops the latter of the two from gaining office, then it's a victory for taxpayers.

We're Not Sure We'd Publish This

The Larry O. campaign website has a comments section on it. Nice touch, but what we find unique about the content found on his site, are the negative posts that basically challenge Larry O's ability to be Mayor.

Let's be honest, it's not the first time that a candidate has allowed visitors to post feelings on how they the candidacy is running. But very rarely to you see a comment published such as this;

This is all fine and dandy, but when will Mr. O’Brien actually tell us WHAT he will do if elected mayor?
I for one am not fooled by your vapourware. There was a lot of that in the hi-tech industry you were so successful in. I am afraid I see shades of that overinflated, dark period of business here in Ottawa all over your website.

Sure You Will

Listening to Alex MUNTER talk about how he'll cut programs if need be to maintain the line on taxes should bring this city to a collective laugh.

MUNTER doesn't know the first thing about cutting programs.

Folks on the left don't include "program cuts" in their limited vocabulary.

Oh MUNTER will cut programs alright; the programs that matter to the middle class, not the pet projects which employ most of his left-wing following.

If you ask us MUNTER's near-flawless campaign up until this week has started to fall apart.

We're quite confident that the next round of public opinion polls (due to be released next week) will showcase a much different race that existed prior to Alex appointing a lobbyist, a crying and ineffective city councillor, and fundraiser to his stupid PR motivated LRT Team.

Cry On Her Shoulder

Go and cry to someone else Alex.

Mayor BOB was well within his right to question your integrity on your "light-rail action team".

Appointing STAVINGA to it is enough to make anyone question your true intentions.

Is this some sort of reward package for her backing your candidacy?

A retirement package of sorts?

Are you two planning to cry together when opponents start to question your judgement?

We're so sick of self-righteous career politicians crying to the mainstream media when an opponent criticizes a position of theirs.

Maybe Alex should institute a "Nice Commissioner" which would monitor the behaviour of all city politicians and staff. Yeah, it could deliver punishments to those that question his Highness.

Time to open your eyes Ottawa, there is alot more than meets the eye with Alex MUNTER.

De-Railed

Dear South-West Taxpayers,

Today Alex MUNTER promised to quash a portion of The O-Train route which would provide transit service to you. MUNTER will halt the portion of proposed light rail expansion to you in order to fund for an expedited expansion of East-West light rail.

Dear East-West Taxpayers,

Your dream of an East-West light rail line will not happen overnight. We strongly suggest that you question MUNTER's proposals prior to giving him your vote. Be it Mayor BOB or MUNTER, light rail across the city in this direction is at least a decade away.

The type of divisive politicking that the Alex MUNTER team is engaging in with this major issue is short-sighted.

Should residents of this city choose MUNTER for Mayor these announcements will come back to bite him in the arse; hard.

Not only will light rail be further delayed, but regional division within this city will reach a new height.

MUNTER proved to us again today, that in our opinion he IS NOT the right choice to lead this city.

BOBgler.com

What happened to Mayor BOB's blog? Six days and no entries.

Does he have nothing to say? (except that the city will crumble if he's not re-elected)

Did his pedometer break? (borrow one from Smilin' Steve)

Has his campaign staff taken a holiday? (they were updating his website every day for about two weeks-one can only handle so much work-)

Or is he to busy announcing the creation of 100 new soccer fields throughout Ottawa? (a real priority for all taxpayers we suspect)

We were actually truly intrigued with this attempt to make the Mayor a little more personable.

We Guess You Can Call It That

en‧dorse‧ment (defined);
The act of endorsing,
Approbation; sanction; support

We guess that one of our least favorite councillors endorsement of Mayor BOB's candidacy is beneficial?

We guess.

Seems to us that the Mayor's campaign is closing in on the bottom of it's list of potential beneficial endorsers.

We realize that Mayor BOB is desperate to secure the East-end voting block, but we question whether or not one of council's weaker links can deliver for him.

What He's Not Talking About

It is crystal clear that Alex MUNTER and his team are trying to sell him as a fiscally responsible candidate.

A campaign focused on growth, development, and no tax increases above the rate of inflation.

But why has MUNTER totally avoided the subject of social program spending?

MUNTER was after all, the head of The Health Recreation and Social Services Committee during his tenure as a city councillor.

You can tell alot about a campaign's message from what a candidate is not talking about through press releases.

Given that MUNTER has said very little, even refused to answer a question on social housing inter-mixed with new development at a mayoralty debate, voters in Ottawa should be asking themselves; just what is this guy's agenda?

Funny Friday

Larry O. and his team get high marks for this release.

Smart. We like....

Is This His Start of The Campaign

Our buddies at other local municipal blogs have been criticizing Andy HAYDON in Ward 22 for being a virtual ghost during this current campaign.

We have a feeling that the fun is just about to begin with HAYDON.

These last four weeks might be more interesting than the previous ten months for voters in this new ward.

As for which candidates stand to lose the most from HAYDON, we'll give you two clues; candidate one smiles alot, candidate two has no real leadership abilities or track record.

What Happened To Munter

No press releases posted for 9 days now from MUNTER.

Could Larry O. be right?

Has the MUNTER camp entered into the huddle formation to formulate a new plan?

Has Larry O. become a true force to be reckoned with?

Not that we are actually complaining, most of the press releases issued by MUNTER up until now have been critical of Mayor BOB's policies.....

.......yes, those would be the same policies that MUNTER supported; before he decided to take a run at Mayor BOB's job.

Just Because You Buy A Car Off The Guy.....

Larry O. is buddies with Jim DURRELL.

But is Jim DURRELL buddies with Larry O?

As Jim's jingle states "some people just know where to go."

Apparently for Larry O, Jim would prefer for him to go away.

Harry Allan

Does anybody remember what this guy's legacy as Mayor of former Gloucester was?

We're not so sure that having this former Mayor as a supporter will help Mayor Bob's campaign in the East end of the city.

Is This A Copyright Infringement?

Smilin' Steve meet your campaign manager.

Campaign manager meet your boss.

Boss meet your endorsement.

Endorsement and campaign manager meet Mayor Bob.

What kind of sick orgy is this municipal campaign turning into?

Flashy

Pretty slick but where is the substance Larry O?

The Mother of All Debates

We have to admit, we had been waiting for this one.

Tonight, Hendricks in his new gig as host of Talk Ottawa on Rogers 22 hosted the candidates of the newly created ward of Gloucester-South Nepean.

Our buddy, Smilin' Steve tried hopelessly to sell himself as the voice of moderation, though we only saw the smile without substance.

We're not quite sure what Eric LAMOUREUX was trying to stress, but we did appreciate the casual attire via the blazer over the flannel shirt.

We decided that without a doubt, Tanya THOMPSON is NOT READY for the job, and would in our opinion be another heavy weight without much pull around the council table.

Robert MCKENNEY would have a solid career as a P.R. guy with John BAIRD.

And while Don DRANSFIELD may have some half decent ideas on public transit, he is not city council material.

That leaves us with who we solidly believe was the winner of the debate. While critics have said that Andrew or Andy HAYDON should have stayed in retirement instead of running, we strongly disagree.

HAYDON showcased in this debate that he still has the spark that made him a well-liked and respected politician. Being a new ward, residents should not automatically dismiss HAYDON based solely on his age.

Getting the right inaugural councillor for this ward will clearly have an impact on whether or not it becomes a true player in this city or merely a bench warmer looking on in envy.

Alex CULLEN Releases Donor List

All those folks on the left side of the spectrum always like to guilt their opponents into releasing their campaign contribution lists and hence revealing that they take donations from BIG BAD corporations.

So in the spirit of fairness, we took a look at Alex CULLEN's list.

We present our findings (we only paid attention to the $500.00 and over donations);

LOKHAT, Hossen: Donation $750.00- OMB application supported by guess who?

STUTT, Tim: Donation $500.00- President, Alpha Communications

Hmmmm....just ordinary citizens donating to the cause right Alex?

We'd love to get our hands on a donation list from our other favorite Alex, another advocate of average citizen donations.

Dear Candidate Larry O.

Dear Larry O.

We challenged our readers to find out just what your whole candidacy was all about.

The concept was quite simple, go to your official website and e-mail us policy found on it.

They tried, they failed, it seems you really don't have any policy; well other then of course saying you'd do things differently.

Listen we understand that you're new at this game, but here is a free piece of advice; playing the new guy who's going to fix things up without a plan only lasts so long.

So take our advice, formulate some policy and let the 33% of voters backing you know what you're really about.

Sincerely,

The Hall Monitor Team

41% Take II

After looking deeper into the methodology used to create the numbers found in The Ottawa Sun poll we aren't so convinced of it's legitimacy.

You see the sample size was small to start out with (600 people) of that sample, about 40% stated that they were not going to vote.

So some quick math and of that initial 600 only 360 are interested in voting.

So even if you get 41% support for a particular candidate, in reality that is only 148 respondents of the entire sample size.

Hardly a majority. 33% gets you 120 supporters, and 26% gets you 94 residents backing your cause.

Factor in the 16% who stated that they would vote but had yet to firmly back any particular candidate and you have 58 additional taxpayers.

Furthermore, we're hearing rumblings from inside two of the three mayoralty camps that the questioning used to determine support was weak at best.

Perhaps the Ottawa Sun was just trying to get a few easy headlines?

What Did You Say?

Our least favorite and probably one of the weakest links on Ottawa City Council speaks (we're referring to the guy who sounds like he just got bumped off the tractor).

The guy is still referring to his days on Cumberland council in 1985.

East end residents who elected this guy should hang their heads in shame.

He is an embarrassment to the city as a whole.

Find The Policy

A fun game for the weekend since it is supposed to rain anyways; we've launched the official "Find The Larry O. Policy" web game.

The concept is quite simple:

1) Go to Larry O's official website

2) Find Policy (don't waste your entire weekend)

3) Policy submitted as comments DO NOT count

4) Send us an e-mail stating which concrete policy you found (the one on long term waste is null and void since we found it)

5) We'll send a bulk e-mail to Larry O. with your findings (though we suspect that it won't be that long)

Thursday, October 12, 2006

41%

41% of taxpayers in this city are ready to hand over the bank account to Alex MUNTER?

We doubt the number is truly this high across the entire city. Besides, take a look at the percentage of undecided voters. Traditionally these votes go to the incumbent. Mayor BOB is in trouble, but he certainly isn't out of the game.

However, once again folks if you aren't ready for a dramatic shift to the left; now is the time to get involved or at the very least vote against a candidate who's "record speaks for itself."

And if you've forgotten what record that is, querying old Health Recreation and Social Services Agenda's while MUNTER was councillor is a nice place to start.

As an aside, Larry O's claim of no tax increase for the next four years is music to our ears, but in reality it ain't gonna happen folks.

Another One?

Can this municipal campaign really stomach another politician bragging about a friggin pedometer?

Mayor BOB and Smilin' Steve are just so darn proud of their walking routine.

Enough with the pedometer bullshit, start giving us real substance.

Who Is Your Council "Idle"?

You would think.....we repeat; You would think, that in the middle of a municipal election where the clear majority of residents are telling incumbents and challengers alike to start focusing on core-services rather than pet projects that down at 110 Laurier some of them would be listening.

Apparently not, instead of dealing with ways to save us money; the left wing of council has again contrived an idea that will cost us over $700K/yr.

While they may, as is the usual claim have the best of intentions, this idea is costly, unrealistic to enforce and a waste of valuable debate time.

We agree with what Counc. HARDER stated on this issue; "This is another example of a feel-good, flakey waste of taxpayers' time."

We couldn't have summed it up better.

In case you needed it, another reason to defeat our pals; FELTMATE and CULLEN.

Mayor BOB: In The Game

"idealogue, opportunist"-them fighting words.

Classic Liberal move, scare, scare, scare, and a bit more scare. While we agree that the "shorter" of his two competitors is fueled by political ideology before common sense, we don't agree that Larry O. is an opportunist.

Looks like Mayor BOB might fire up his own O-Train in the final month of the campaign to truly try and win this race.

Alex MUNTER wants to......

....pump the city up.

Sometimes you just need to say "no" to a photo spread.

Spare us the e-mails left-wingers, we just couldn't resist.

Mayor Bob Announces Supporters

In an attempt to show he is still in the race. Mayor BOB's team recently added the endorsement section to his website.

Needless to say we are less than impressed. Putting a bunch of Liberal party hacks and portraying them as supporters is in our eyes quite a desperate move.

Pay close attention to the folks near the bottom of the page; might want to do a google search.

We Are Good

From our previous post;

John Baird (Conservative, Ottawa-West-Nepean): While there has been no public endorsement, his lack of love for Mayor BOB is no secret, and we can't see him hoping for a MUNTER lead council. We suspect that if John decides to publicly endorse a candidate, that it would more than likely be Larry O.

Guess with the announcement today it has become crystal clear who Baird is backing.

Where Do The Allegiances Lie?

So who are local MP's backing in this Mayoralty race?

Here are our guesses;

Royal Galipeau (Conservative, Ottawa-Orleans): Although we've heard he's been MIA since his election in January 2006, we have sources which indicate that despite his blue affiliation, he's behind Alex MUNTER.

Mauril Belanger (Liberal, Ottawa-Vanier): Confirmed backer of MUNTER....Liberal MP's hold grudges and they seem to last for quite a long time.

Paul Dewar (NDP, Ottawa-Center): Given that Mayor BOB in the final days of Richard MAHONEY's (say MAHONEY right or you'll get a slap) publicly campaigned for the guy, we suspect that a MUNTER for MAYOR sign will find it's way onto Dewar's lawn.

Pierre Poilievre (Conservative, Nepean-Carleton): No idea, no clue; but given the infrastructure investments in his end of the city throughout the Mayor BOB tenure, we would think that Bob would be the choice.

So it's clear that Alex has the majority of support, but will it pay off in six weeks??
